I was born in El Paso,
Texas, on June 6, 1956, the son of Vicente
Lombraña
and Maria Elena Lombraña.
Upon graduating from Cathedral High
School,
El Paso, Texas, in 1975,
I entered the University of Texas at
El Paso. From
1980 to
1983, while attending the University of Texas at El
Paso, I worked as a
research assistant in
the Psychology Department's Primate
Laboratory. My
assistantship was funded
by the Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS)
program. I earned
my Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of
Texas at El Paso in
May, 1981. In June, 1981, I entered
the Graduate School of
the University of
Texas at El Paso. From August 1983 to May 1985, I was
employed as a mathematics
and science teacher at Blessed Sacrament
School,
El Paso, Texas.
My teaching duties included teaching
5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade
mathematics, and, 7th
and 8th grade science.
In August, 1985, I earned a Master
of Science in
Biology from the University of Texas
at El Paso. Later that same
month, I entered a doctoral
program at New Mexico State University.
While at
New Mexico State University,
I worked as a teaching
assistant in the Department
of Biology. My
teaching assignments included
teaching and preparing laboratory
courses in general biology,
genetics, zoology, embryology, and
human anatomy.
In 1992, I worked as
a part-time mathematics teacher for
the School for Educational
Enrichment, El Paso,
Texas. My teaching duties included
teaching 8th grade math,
consumermath, pre-algebra,
algebra, and geometry to non-traditional students.
That same year, I also
worked as a substitute teacher for the Ysleta Independent
School District, El
Paso, Texas. In June, 1992, I earned a Ph.D. in Biology
from
New Mexico State University.
My doctoral dissertation was on the
distribution and
systematic relationships
of four different cytotypes of
theThomomys talpoides
complex of pocket gophers.
On September 4, 1993,
I married Elena Prats. Two
years later, on December
22, our son, Vicente Francisco, was
born. Since July 1992,
I have been working
as a biology instructor in the Division
of Math, Sciences, and
Technologies at New
Mexico State University at Alamogordo. On
August 16, 1996,
I was promoted to Assistant
Professor. In August 1998, I was awarded
Continuous Contract
status at New Mexico State University
at Alamogordo. In
August 2000, I was promoted
to Associate Professor.
