Nursing Program (NURS)

About the Nursing Program

Men and women who are looking for a challenge and a chance to make a difference in the lives of others should consider a career in nursing. Nurses work with individuals, families, groups, and the community in providing a variety of health-care services; medical-surgical nursing, emergency-critical care nursing, geriatric nursing, school health, community and home health, psychiatric-mental health nursing, pediatric nursing, research, education, and administration and management.

The NMSU-A Nursing Program undertakes the education of students from diverse and multicultural backgrounds in an environment that promotes challenging experiences, personal satisfaction, and lifelong learning.

The nursing curriculum at NMSU-A provides educational preparation leading to the Associate Degree in Nursing. Upon completion of the Associate Degree in Nursing, the graduate is eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Students wishing to continue working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing may then apply to the BSN Program at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces or the University of New Mexico BSN completion program located on that campus and through GCRMC.
