NMSU-A Scholarships

Students Receiving Scholarships

During the 2007-2008 aid year, NMSU Alamogordo paid $359,000 to 491 students in scholarships. Many of the 19 scholarships at NMSU-A are funded through local/area sources (value - $133,000), but NMSU-A also disperses the Lottery and Bridge Scholarships. This year, 107 NMSU-A students received approximately $158,000 for tuition from the Lottery Scholarship and 96 students received a total of $63,444 from the Bridge Scholarship. (So far, $65,000 in Bridge Scholarship money has been awarded for the 2008-2009 aid year.)

State scholarships available to NMSU-A students exceed $36,000 a year. In addition to the monies for NMSU-A students through established scholarships are the donations from 29 outside donors in varying amounts each year.

And then there are the grants and loans available to those who apply and qualify. With so much financial assistance available to people wanting to seek higher education, why would anyone not take advantage of the opportunities?

On Monday, April 28, NMSU-A held its first annual Scholarship Recognition Ceremony at the Tays Special Events Center. The purpose of this ceremony was to recognize the NMSU-A students receiving scholarships for the 2007-2008 aid year. Each received a special certificate designating the name of the scholarship awarded to them. The ceremony also recognized those who played a significant role in perpetuating the scholarships at NMSU-A, including the Alamogordo Foundation, Alamogordo Public School Advisory Board, and area high school counselors.
