In-Depth Information Literacy Tutorials

The NMSU-A Library does not currently have its own tutorial focusing on teaching fundamental research concepts and skills. We hope to add one soon. Although the listed tutorials cater to specific university campuses and holdings, a wealth of knowledge can be gained concerning the general research process.

Atlases & Maps

NMSU-A Library has a small collection of atlases and individual maps (PDF, 86 KB).

Audio

Audio Cassettes and Audio CDs are available for checkout. Cassette and CD jackets/covers can be reviewed and then taken to the service desk for retrieval and checkout. See the listing of the entire audio collection (PDF, 110 KB) or list of entertainment-related audio titles (PDF, 67 KB).

Books, including eBooks

NMSU-A Library contains over 45,000 volumes, all of which can be searched using the Library Catalog. Books from NMSU Main Campus and Dona Ana Community College can be sent here for you within two days time after a request has been made. The Library also has a substantial collection of eBooks licensed through NetLibrary. To view these eBooks from off-campus you must first set up an account while on-campus. Click the “Create a Free Account” link at the top of any NetLibrary page.

NMSU-A Library subscribes to more than 180 Journals, Magazines, and Newspapers (PDF, 73 KB) in print/paper format.

Reference Materials

The Reference section of the library contains materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories, almanacs, and legal materials. We also have the complete sets of Contemporary Authors and Contemporary Literary Criticism.

Reserves

Instructors place a variety of materials on reserve for specific classes. Listings of course reserves by instructor or course are available in the Course Reserves section of the library catalog.

Government Documents - State of New Mexico

The library has been designated a depository for publications issued by the State of New Mexico. These documents are all shelved together in the southwest section of the library and are placed in order according to their New Mexico Documents Classification Number, which organizes them by the name of the issuing agency.

Videos (DVD and VHS format) are available for checkout. DVD and VHS jackets/covers can be reviewed and then taken to the service desk for retrieval and checkout. A complete listing of all videos is also available by By Title (PDF, 216 KB) or by Call Number (PDF, 203 KB).

The Chronicle of Higher Education requires username and password
Weekly news articles and job listings in the field of academia. To access articles from within The Chronicle website you must have the username and password.

Computer Database requires username and password
Contains approximately 750 publications. Some full-text is available.

Computers & Applied Sciences Complete requires username and password
Covers the research and development spectrum of the computing and applied sciences disciplines. CASC provides indexing and abstracts for more than 1,800 academic journals, professional publications, and other reference sources from a diverse collection. Full text is also available for more than 730 periodicals.

ERIC (Education Resources Information Center)
Contains 1.2 million bibliographic records of journal articles and other education-related materials. Contains some links to full-text.

Education Research Complete requires username and password
Comprehensive coverage of the field of education. Topics covered include all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialties, such as multilingual education, health education, and testing. Provides indexing and abstracts for more than 1,840 journals, as well as full text for more than 950 journals, and includes full text for more than 81 books and monographs, and for numerous education-related conference papers.

Environment Complete requires username and password
Environment Complete offers deep coverage in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, renewable energy sources, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. Environment Complete contains more than 1,957,000 records from more than 1,700 domestic and international titles going back to the 1940s (including 1,125 active core titles). The database also contains full text for more than 680 journals and 120 monographs.

History Reference Center requires username and password
History Reference Center offers full text from more than 2,300 reference books, encyclopedias and non-fiction books, cover to cover full text for more than 130 leading history periodicals, more than 61,100 historical documents, 66,000 biographies of historical figures, more than 110,200 historical photos and maps, and more than 80 hours of historical video.

The U.S. National Library of Medicine’s full-text digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature.

Small Engine Repair Reference Center requires username and password
Small Engine Repair Reference Center (SERRC) is a full text database providing reference and instructional information about small engine machinery maintenance and repair. SERRC contains the full set of small engine repair manuals from Clymer (http://www.clymer.com/). Engines types include: motorcycles, ATVs, personal water craft, snowmobiles, lawn mowers, tractors, snow blowers, generators, and more.
