"Evening of Originals"
NMSU-A Acting Class to Perform Final Performance Projects.
The NMSU-A Beginning Acting class will present "An Evening of Originals" on Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 pm at the Rohovec Fine Arts Center.
The evening will feature student written and performed monologues as well as three short original scripts written especially for the students by Connie Breding, associate professor of theatre.
Students who will be performing include Carlos Aranda, Megan Clark, Rosana Cleve, Maggie Fussell, Cara Housler, Ashley James, Tim Jones, Rita Luna, James Motley, Tamara Phares, Lauren Silva, and Vanessa Velez.

"At the beginning of the semester, each student in the class wrote a monologue based on some aspect of his/her life. Then, we moved to some traditional creative exercises and theatre games, and at the mid-term point, we started working with the scripts," said Breding. "Our rehearsal period for the scripts has not been all that long, but it has given the students a situation similar to that in the 'real world,' where actors must rehearse, learn lines, and develop characterization in a limited amount of time."
Roland Mansfield is providing lights and sound for the performance so the students get the effect of performing under production conditions. The cast is providing their own costumes and props, and scenery will be minimal. "An Evening of Originals" will give the class members the experience of performing for an audience so they will have the knowledge of what an actor faces when onstage.
"An Evening of Originals" is open to the public, and while no admission will be charged, people who attend are asked to contribute cash donations for the local COPE food bank.
