Put document or picture into scanner (make sure image or text is face down). Press the green button labeled "Scan" on the front of the scanner. You will receive a window on your desktop that says "launching application." You will then receive the "HP Picture Scan Task Manager." Select what you wish to scan.

Hit "Enter."

The image has now been scanned into 'Paperport' -- To select your image, click on it.  It will be bordered in red when it is selected. Select the program you wish to use to edit your image from the bottom toolbar, or select 'Export' to send the image.

In Word select 'insert',  then select 'picture' (even if you are scanning text), then select 'from scanner'.  You will see the 'HP Picture Scan Task Manager' select what you wish to scan (picture or other pages).  If you are scanning text make sure to select what type of text under 'select page type.'

For Text: under "Select Page Type", select text page, click and drag document from desktop over Wordpad icon at bottom of screen.  Then save document as a word document or other type of document.
