Recommended settings for Netscape/Mozilla Composer at NMSU-A

When using Netscape or Mozilla Composer to edit NMSU-A web pages, the setting shown below should be used. Without settings as shown, Composer will modify things in the web page often inserting things you don't want and removing things you do want. This problem is caused by using the setting "Reformat HTML source" which is the default setting after installing Netscape or Mozilla. One of the most noticeable problems created is that extra spaces are placed between pictures and the enclosing element causing the images to have white space around them even though it isn't wanted (see examples below).

Another problem setting that is a default setting is "Save images and other associated files when saving pages." Leaving this setting on (checked) changes the location of images in your document. Most images (especially those used on NMSU-A pages) are located on the Alamo server in a directory called images or Images (case sensitive). Correctly formatted web pages on the server will use the images from the images directory like or . Leaving the setting at default will change either of these to causing the images to not be found as I have a program running on the server that regularly deletes duplicate copies of images that are stored in the images directory.
