Background:

Bill Lockhart first taught part time at NMSU-A in the summer of 1995 and continued to teach classes until he won the tenure-track position in Sociology two years later.  A late bloomer, Lockhart became a student at El Paso Community College at the age of 44 in 1988 and transferred to the University of Texas at El Paso five semesters later to complete a Bachelor's Degree with a double major in Sociology and Anthropology in 1993.  Because he was so happy with the university, he continued at UTEP for his Master of Arts Degree in Sociology (minor in History) in 1995.  Lockhart loves his students, NMSU-A, Alamogordo, and teaching, and he plans to remain here until retirement at the age of 72!.  He and his wife, Wanda Wakkinen, are avid travelers and keep several pet snakes.  In addition, Lockhart is an avid Historical Archaeologist and writes books and articles on his specialty area, the bottles and bottle-related industries of Southern New Mexico, El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico.  He is currently an Assistant Professor of Sociology at NMSU-A.
