Veterans Benefits Certification
All veterans and dependents who are eligible to receive veterans benefits must complete the application certification process prior to registration. Further, they MUST have their courses approved by an academic counselor and certified by the NMSU-A Veterans Office EACH semester of enrollment. COURSE APPROVALS ARE NOT DONE DURING REGISTRATION -- SO COME IN EARLY.
Veterans Attendance and Satisfactory Progress
Veterans Administration requires all students using Veterans Educational Benefits to make satisfactory progress and systematic advancement toward an educational objective or be liable for overpayments from the Veterans Administration. Satisfactory progress and regular class attendance are expected of all students using VA Benefits. Poor attendance is reported to the VA and benefits will be adjusted.
If a veteran receiving benefits is placed on academic probation or suspended for academic reasons, benefits are terminated and will be restored only after successful counseling through the Veterans Administration.
If the university has liability claims filed against it as a result of a veteran failing to meet compliance requirements of the Veterans Administration, the university will not release any academic records on the veteran until such time as the veteran has reimbursed the federal government for funds drawn in violation of those requirements.
