The Financial Aid Process

The Financial Aid Office provides applications and support services for students who apply for financial aid. The Financial Aid Office awards and monitors disbursements of funds from federal programs that include the Pell Grant, the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), LEAP Grant, Work Study, Perkins Loan, Stafford Loan, and Plus/Supplemental Loan. State grants, work study, and loan programs are also available.

  1. Complete the FAFSA Online. FAFSA stands for "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" and is a federal government website. Start this process by creating a PIN ("Personal Identification Number"). Please Note the following school codes needed when completing the FAFSA:
    • NMSU-A School Code: 002658
    • NMSU School Code: 002657
  2. Check the status of your loan application. This is a NMSU website and requires a special PIN. Currently Financial Aid PIN's can be obtained by logging onto my.NMSU.edu. (Learn More.)
