NMSU-A Celebrates 50 Years

NMSU-A President Cheri Jimeno and Hope Patterson show off 50th Anniversary wreath

NMSU-A is 50 years old! What a wonderful milestone for us to celebrate.

In 1958, we held our first classes (at night) in Alamogordo High School. In 1968, we claimed permanent residency at 2400 N. Scenic Drive. As we begin the celebration of our 50th anniversary, we are boasting a record enrollment of over 2,800 students along with 14 different buildings. During 2008, we will start construction on our first LEED Silver Certified (or green) building - the Allied Health Addition. We anticipate construction on this addition will begin in May 2008.

We believe we are one of the best comprehensive community colleges in the State of New Mexico. Our excellent faculty and staff will assist you with selecting from one or more of our 11 associate degrees, 14 associate of applied science degrees, and 20-plus certificate programs. We are very proud of being an open admissions institution; therefore, we have excellent developmental courses and tutoring services. We continue to meet the growing needs of our community by offering a variety of seminars and training sessions through Community Education. We also sponsor strong Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) programs. On July 1, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs will join our campus.

So, Happy Birthday to us! Please be sure to join us in a variety of activities as we celebrate this momentous occasion.
